Walk With Me Sugar 5K Run/Walk Against Diabetes

On August 23, 2025, the Eta Nu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. hosted our inaugural Walk With Me Sugar 5K Run/Walk Against Diabetes at Genoa Park in Columbus, Ohio. This signature event was a historic moment for our chapter and for the City of Columbus, uniting families, community partners, health advocates, and supporters to confront one of the most pressing health issues in the African American community — diabetes.

The day was filled with energy and purpose. Participants of all ages came together to walk, run, and fellowship, while also gaining access to health resources and education. The event also featured vendor partners, community organizations, and sponsors who provided valuable services, screenings, and information to promote healthier living.

The impact of the 5K was significant:

551 registered participants joined us for the event.

$60,000 donated to the Columbus Free Clinic to expand healthcare access and diabetes care.

600 continuous glucose monitors donated to individuals managing diabetes.

52 free blood glucose screenings provided onsite.

Two new partnerships formed with Abbott and Dexcom, strengthening our ability to deliver education, technology, and support in the fight against diabetes.

This event demonstrated that when Brotherhood, community, and purpose come together, real change happens. The overwhelming positive feedback — with many noting they couldn’t believe it was our first time hosting — has already established the Walk With Me Sugar 5K as a signature community event that will continue to grow in years to come.
